Manchester City vs Monaco: Champions League Context
Manchester City are preparing to face Monaco in the Champions League, with both sides entering the tie under contrasting circumstances. Pep Guardiola’s team earned a controlled 2-0 win over Napoli, with Monaco arriving on the back of a heavy 4-1 defeat to Club Brugge.
Training Absentees
Man City will be without several players for the clash. Abdukodir Khusanov, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Omar Marmoush are all absent from Manchester City training again ahead of tomorrows clash. The latest reports on these injuries state that City aim to have these players back for Everton (H) on October 18th after the international break.
Training Boosts for Manchester City
Rodri returned to the training pitch despite fitness concerns, only days after Guardiola revealed the Spaniard had reported significant knee pain and essentially ruled himself out of the Burnley game. His presence in training raises hope that he could feature against Monaco, though his match readiness is uncertain. For Monaco, the return of Rayan Cherki to training is a huge boost. However, questions remain over whether he will be fit enough to start or only feature from the bench.
Additionally, midfielders Mateo Kovacic and Kalvin Phillips have also resumed full training, strengthening Guardiola’s options in the middle.
