Manchester City are gearing up for another crucial Premier League fixture this weekend as they take on Aston Villa at Villa Park. Ahead of the clash, Pep Guardiola addressed the media to provide the latest updates, offering insight into the fitness of several key players and how the squad is shaping up for Sunday’s encounter.

Guardiola offered an update on Nico González, who appeared to pick up a slight knock in the Champions League win over Villarreal. Speaking to reporters, Pep said: “I didn’t see the doctors, and we’ll see today and tomorrow how he feels… Something with his feet…” The Spaniard’s fitness is being closely monitored, and while the issue is not thought to be serious, his availability for Sunday’s match remains uncertain. González has stepped up in recent weeks, covering for Rodri in defensive midfield, and could once again be called upon if he passes a late assessment.

City will once again be without Rodri, who continues to recover from a hamstring injury sustained shortly after the 1–0 win over Brentford. Guardiola confirmed that the midfielder has not yet returned to full training: “Still the guys who were not able in Villarreal, still they are not ready.” Rodri’s absence has been felt in City’s midfield stability, though Nico González has proven a capable replacement in the interim. The club’s medical staff are expected to reassess the situation during the international break, with a potential return pencilled in later this month.

Meanwhile, Abdukodir Khusanov remains sidelined for Aston Villa. With him not featuring since his 45 minute stint against Arsenal on September 21, the Uzbek defender will continue his recovery. Manchester City’s injury list may be easing slightly compared to last month, but Guardiola will still have to manage his options carefully as the schedule intensifies.
